Cleveland Thermal, Downtown Cleveland’s district energy provider, collaborated with nine of its customers to collect 2,020 lbs. of food for the Cleveland Foodbank’s 2010 Harvest for Hunger campaign.  Additionally, the company, its customers and tenants made monetary donations totaling $2,527.  All-in-all, the company’s contribution equates to approximately 11,686 meals or enough  food to feed one person for more than ten and a half years.

The utility’s drive concluded in mid-April, and Michael Rastatter, Cleveland Thermal’s business development manager noted, “The competitive spirit among our customers and employees was evident this year.  Everyone was interested in making sure we exceeded last year’s efforts.”

Although Cleveland Thermal fell short of its 2,500 lbs. food goal, it had more people donate money to this year’s campaign, which resulted in twice as many equivalent meals when compared to last year’s campaign.

Cleveland Thermal  partnered with the following sites: the Standard, B. F. Keith, Caxton, Hanna, Bulkley and Leader buildings; 1100 Superior; The Idea Center; and the Chesterfield and Reserve Square Apartments.  To help incentivize donors, Cleveland Thermal raffled off Cleveland Indians and Palace Theater tickets weekly through its five-week drive and plans to cater a lunch for the B.F. Keith Building management team, who worked with its tenants to gather more food than all other participating facilities.

Cleveland Thermal’s 2010 Harvest for Hunger drive was a huge success. The utility hopes to increase its customer partners and total contributions in next year’s campaign.
