Making Efficiency Work Grant Applications Receiving Overwhelming Legislative Support

In May, Cleveland Thermal (CT) submitted applications to secure a portion of the $8 million Making Efficiency Works Program (RFP #09-15) grant, which was announced in March as part of the Federal American Reinvestment and Recovery Act (ARRA) to fund strong commercial energy efficiency projects. The grant is being administered through the Ohio Department of Development (ODOD).

The grants will be applied to two large district energy retro-fit projects; one on behalf of a customer and the other for a prospective customer.  The implementation of these projects will reduce carbon footprints, increase efficiencies and lower operational costs.  Additionally, the projects will benefit the Cleveland area as a whole in terms of job creation and business retention.

Since CT filed the applications, it has received an overwhelming amount of support from local and state legislators due to the sustainable nature of the projects and their potential widespread impact on the local economy.  The ODOD is expected to announce the list of grant awardees in the coming weeks.
